TL;DR
I used Geomancy (Ilm al-Raml) to see how my flight home from Dallas would go. I wasn’t expecting issues, so I was surprised when my figure predicted achievement through assistance. 😳
What is Arabic Geomancy (Ilm al-Raml)?
Ilm al-Raml was developed in North Africa and is an ancient form of divination. It translates to “science of the sands” because the figures of lines and dots can be drawn in the sand. You can use pen and paper as I do, or dice, coins, even shells.
I highly recommend checking out Dr. Ali Olomi’s Patreon to learn how to work Geomancy for yourself. It’s very impressive how spot on these readings are.
Start with 16 lines
After a simple cleansing and invocation, you first make 16 rows of dots while concentrating on the question you’re divining for. It’s really important that you’re not counting off as you move your pen across the page - it’s supposed to be a random amount of marks. You also don’t have to go all the way across the paper in your rows, you can stop and move on to the next row whenever you’re ready.
When you’re done with your 16 lines, count the number of marks in each line, noting whether there is an odd number of marks, or an even number.
Create your figure
The figure consists of 4 Mothers (noted by M1, M2, M3, M4 figures), 4 Daughters (D1-D4), and 4 Granddaughters (GD 1-4). Towards the bottom on the left side we have the Left Witness, which tells us what is to come, and the Right Witness tells us our current state or what has already happened leading up to the question. The Judge is the final answer — the outcome to your situation no matter what the witnesses say.
Add the Astrological Houses
After we built the table, we can add in the astrological house significations from right to left. Mother 1 is also the first house, Mother 2 is the 2nd House, etc until you get to Granddaughter 4 which is the 12th house.
Here’s a quick recap on the houses:
1st house: The body, the self-identity, your person
2nd house: Your assets, finances, food and resources
3rd house: local travel, daily rituals, siblings and communication
4th house: your home, ancestors, parents, grandparents, private life
5th house: children, ambassadors, representatives, sex, parties, creativity and games
6th house: illness, accidents, service to others, pets
7th house: one-on-one partnerships whether good or bad
8th house: anxiety, idleness, death, important collaborations, reciprocity
9th house: philosophy, law, higher education, divination, long distance travel
10th house: your reputation, public events, what you are known in public life
11th house: your allies, friends, associates, supporters, and your hopes
12th house: Exile, isolation by choice or by force, secret enemies, large animals, things done in secret, hidden matters.
The Prediction for my flight:
The Judge: Nusrat al-Kharij
The judge in Geomancy is the final answer to the question. This judge means there will be external aid to get me home—that help is on the way. That I will achieve a flight home through assistance.
The Right Witnesses: My current state, ALSO: Nusrat al-Kharij
The Right Witness is ALSO Nusrat al-Kharij. When this comes up as the right witness, according to Olomi it “indicates something external. As right witness it, usually means power, influence or fortune rests externally to the person asking the question. They can't do it alone.”
The Left Witnesses: Influences to come: Jama’a
The Left Witness is Jama’a, which means “Joy of Clan and People”, a coming together of family and friends. This reinforces the message of the Judge of a good outcome.
Judge passes through the 2nd House: (in red)
The figure circled in red is the same as the Judge. We say “the judge is passing through the 2nd house”. The second house in astrology is “your stuff” your movable property. This is a reassurance that my luggage would not be lost in the changing of planes which was something I was very worried about.
What Happened:
My flight on Friday night from Dallas TX to Southern California was delayed over 5 hours due to mechanical issues. We all had to deplane and wait at the gate for hours.
When we finally boarded our new plane , the pilots got on the speaker and let us know that they had come in from their day off to help us get home. This was the “outside assistance over time” promised by Nusrat al-Kharij — the Right Witness and the Judge. I didn’t get home till after midnight.
The level of detail even in this basic level of Geomancy is very exciting. Despite having a really long night I was amazed at the level of detail that can be pulled from an al-Raml Geomancy figure. As seen here, al-Raml is great for getting a general vibe check to most any situation.
